Two Kosher Eateries Near Edison Yeshiva Destroyed In 3-Alarm Blaze

Famous Jerusalem Pizza and the China Lee Kosher restaurant in Highland Park were severely damaged in a three-alarm blaze late Tuesday night, in an incident that has sparked speculation about its nature.

Several dozen firefighters fought the blaze at 229 Raritan Street, which spread quickly through the side-by-side food establishments, which are owned by the same frum person.

The structure within which the food stores have apartments on the upper floor and shops on the ground floor. Everyone in the apartments were safely evacuated.

No injuries were reported, and an investigation is underway into the cause of the fire, but as of Wednesday afternoon, the Middlesex County Fire Marshal’s Office said it did not appear to be the work of an arsonist.

  1. Control yourself. It’s a good 10-15 minute drive from the Yeshiva to that area where these places were located on Raritan Avenue.

You could have said that this is in the frum section of Edison / HighlandPark, NJ. That would have been more accurate.

  2. I’ve been in the pizza store dozens of times and never once saw an Edison Bachur there. So I’m not sure why you would classify these as being near Edison Yeshiva. They are Highland Park eateries that on the far end of Highland Park which shares a border with Edison. Either way, it’s sad for the Highland Park community as this was basically their main Pizza store and only Chinese store. And sad for the owner who owned both stores. Hope he has good insurance and can get back on his feet quickly.
