Parts of Route 9 in Toms River will be closed at night for the near future as the New Jersey Department of Transportation begins its much-anticipated Route 9 repaving and widening project.
The DOT says both directions of Route 9 from Indian Head Road to Church Road will be closed nightly from 9 pm to 5 am Mondays through Fridays for approximately 3 months.
Road closures on the Lakewood portion of Route 9 are expected to begin later this year.
In all, the project will see the repaving of 7 miles of Route 9 and the widening of 8 intersections, as well as the placement of two new traffic signals at Oak St. and Broadway, and the addition of left turning lanes at 7 intersections.
