Toms River Police responded to a call on Oxford Street at approximately 10:47 AM regarding a verbal dispute involving a handgun. The victim reported that a male, later identified as Asheer Johnson, 18, brandished a handgun and fired a shot into the residence. No injuries were reported.
Officers arrived to find a bullet hole in the rear storm door and a shell casing on the back patio. Further investigation revealed that the bullet had penetrated the storm door and lodged into a downstairs door.
Another resident on Irving Place reported being threatened by a male matching Johnson’s description. Officers arrested Johnson without incident at his residence, recovering an unregistered firearm.
Johnson is being held on charges of Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of Hollow Point Bullets. The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI, and Toms River Detectives assisted in the investigation.
