A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle at the intersection of Locust and New Hampshire in Lakewood on Monday evening.
The patient was reportedly in traumatic arrest when EMTs arrived at the scene, and later passed away.
Lakewood police released the following statement on Tuesday morning:
Just after 5:30pm last evening, the Lakewood Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident, involving a pedestrian, at the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Erica Road. Upon arrival they met with a 67-year-old Brick man who stated that as he was traveling south on New Hampshire Avenue in his 2021 Ford Escape he struck someone. \
The driver stated that he did not see the victim prior to the crash but did stop to wait for the arrival of police and emergency medical services. Sadly, the victim later identified at a local hospital as 28-year-old Ana Gabriella Mayorga-Baires succumbed to her injuries at approximately 6:15pm.
