Manchester Police Honor Kid Who Gave Out Lemonade in Scorching Weather

Yesterday, Chief Robert Dolan had the distinct honor of presenting the “Lemon-Aid Kid” himself, Dalton Sardo, with a Civilian Service Award during our annual Departmental Awards Ceremony.

Throughout the summer of 2022, with heat waves reaching 100 degrees, there was one place you could go to get a nice cold refreshing drink, and that was at Dalton’s lemonade stand in Pine Lake Park.

Known as the “Lemon-aid Kid,” Dalton enlisted the help of his mother, Amy O’Brien-Sardo, to set up a lemonade stand and posted up outside of his residence in Pine Lake Park. Word quickly spread and soon members of the township, police department, EMTs, and firefighters stopped by to support him.

Dalton used this opportunity to not only provide his community a chance to cool off, but also provide for those in need. Where many kids his age would use this money to buy the newest video game, Dalton took it upon himself to donate to various charitable foundations. In addition to supporting our police, fire, and EMS, Dalton generously donated proceeds to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, the Popcorn Park Zoo, and to help a young Barnegat girl diagnosed with cancer with a dream trip to Disney.

In addition to this award and in honor of Dalton, the Manchester Township PBA Local 246 will be donating $1,000 to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research.

Congratulations, Dalton! We appreciate all that you’ve done for our community.
