Cop Who Used High-Tech Toll-Beating Devices Facing Prison Time

A 27-year-old Bayonne police officer is facing prison time after using a device to get around paying for tolls.

Jeffrey Veloz reportedly beat paying over $1,000 in New York tolls using a “mechanical plate curtain device” 38 times and a “dark plate diffuser” 14 times. He also took license plates off his vehicle 29 times – 25 times on a pickup truck and 4 times on a motorcycle.

Veloz was suspended from his $74,000 a year job as a police on August 12th, but now he’s facing charges of fourth degree petit larceny and 81 counts of petit larceny. Those charges could land him in jail for 4 years.
