SAFETY ALERT: Hyundai Elantras, Accents Recalled Over Exploding Seat Belt Parts

If you’re the owner of a Hyundai vehicle, you may want to take a look if car has been recalled over a critical safety issue.

Hyundai said it’s recalling 239,000 vehicles over their seat belts’ pretensioners – the part that makes the belt tight in the event of a crash – can explode on deployment, sending shrapnel flying across the vehicle.

The recall includes 2019-2022 Accents, 2021-2023 Elantras, and 2021-2022 Elantra HEVs (hybrid electric vehicles).

Hyundai owners can bring these vehicles to a dealership for rectification of the safety issue at no cost.

For more information, owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 and reference recall number 229. They can also call the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
