Lakewood Residents’ Lawsuit Against Cell Tower Dismissed

An Ocean County judge has dismissed an attempt by residents to block a Verizon cell tower from being placed on top of the Eleanor Levovitz senior living center at the corner of 6th and Clifton.

Verizon received approval for the cell tower from the Lakewood Zoning Board in 2021, with neighbors subsequently putting up a spirited fight against it, warning that the cell tower could have severe negative impacts on the health of those living nearby, and especially children.

The neighbors also released letters from the BMG roshei yeshiva, the Satmar dayan, and Rav Yaakov Forchheimer stating their opposition to the cell tower over the neighbors’ health concerns.

The neighbors eventually sued over the Zoning Board’s approval, arguing that it had not properly considered the adverse effects of having the communication tower in the densely populated neighborhood.

However, on Friday, Judge Francis Hodgson threw out the lawsuit, paving the way for the cell tower to be installed.
