Thousands of residents in Manchester Township were placed under mandatory evacuation orders over Yom Tov as a massive wildfire threatened their homes and nearby businesses.
No residents from the frum neighborhoods of Holly Oaks and Pine Lake Park were forced to evacuate.
At 10 a.m. Thursday, April 13, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said it achieved 100 percent containment of the 3,859-acre wildfire in Manchester Township on federal, state and private property.
Forest Fire Service staff will remain on scene to continue improving containment lines and monitor the area to ensure public safety. Smoke conditions may remain for several hours.
The fire’s cause is under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
On Tuesday night mandatory evacuations were ordered in Lakehurst from Division St. to Route 70, Horicon Ave, and Beckerville Road. Approximately 170 structures were evacuated in Manchester and Lakehurst and 75 structures are threatened by the fire. Structure protection was provided by local volunteer fire companies.
