Last week, YahalomNJ hosted a beautiful rooftop event for Yahalom fathers, providing these dedicated men with a well-deserved relaxing evening out.
Yahalom is Agudath Israel of America’s resource and referral department for families of children with special needs. Yahalom provides support to their families in a multitude of ways, including assisting parents with receiving government programs, connecting them with other organizations, or offering emotional support through events and activities.
Rabbi Yishai Ghoori addressed his fellow Yahalom fathers, sharing his personal journey of raising a child with special needs. His chizuk and practical advice were received warmly by the attendees, who were moved by his words. The fathers also heard from Rabbi Yechiel Spero, who spoke of his admiration for these fathers and the work they do every day with unending dignity and grace.
The men stayed long after the official program came to a close, connecting with each other and sharing their struggles and successes.
“Every Yahalom event leaves me with the invaluable feeling that I’m not alone, that there are other fathers and families doing exactly what I’m doing, and that there are people out there who recognize our challenges and support us,” said one Yahalom father who attended the event.
YahalomNJ thanks board members Moshe Tress and Shmuli Werdiger for their unwavering support, and particularly for hosting the wonderful event. Yahalom also thanks Rabbi Yishai Ghoori for his words of inspiration and insight at the event.
“This event was a perfect example of the power of Yahalom,” said Mrs. Chana Laniado, director of YahalomNJ. “The talented speakers who shared ideas and support, the dedicated night out to just relax, and the strength of a community of fathers who can empower and uplift each other – they all contribute to a successful event but more importantly to every Yahalom family.”
