An 81-year-old Manchester woman was injured Friday morning after suffering a medical episode while driving, leading to a collision with two parked cars and a home in the Renaissance neighborhood, according to Manchester police.
Anita M. Lahm was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment of minor chest and neck injuries following the incident, which occurred just after 11:30 a.m., said Capt. Albert Vega of the Manchester Township Police Department.
Lahm was driving a white 2016 Hyundai Sonata south on Belvedere Drive North and approaching a stop sign at Renaissance Boulevard when she apparently experienced a medical episode, Vega said. As a result, she ran the stop sign and drove onto the property at 2 Belvedere Drive South.
Her vehicle struck the front end of a red 2017 Toyota Camry parked in the driveway, causing her Hyundai to turn 45 degrees and collide with the two-car garage of the home, according to Vega. The impact also caused the red Toyota to shift 45 degrees, striking a white 2014 Toyota Camry also parked in the driveway. Both Toyotas sustained extensive front-end damage, Vega added.
Firefighters and EMTs from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Medical Services, along with volunteer firefighters from the Manchester Volunteer Fire Company and the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company, assisted at the scene.
Patrolman Conner Yatauro of the Manchester Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the incident, Vega said.
No further details were immediately available regarding Lahm’s condition or the extent of the damage to the home. The investigation remains ongoing.
