Despite Lakewood Township having funds and a working agreement with an organization in place to combat homelessness, the township’s downtown is still plagued by homeless people who make life and business difficult.
“They’re entitled to mental health services and whatnot. The problem we have is that a lot of these folks refuse help,” Mayor Coles explained to Lakewood Alerts, emphasizing that the township’s hands are essential tied.
“Some of the folks that lay around out in the town square around town actually have places to go, where the means to get permanent housing but they refuse,” he noted.
“And it’s something that’s very, very frustrating and I think about it a lot,” he continued. “I said to somebody yesterday when I went to vote, that the two things that I worry about most are traffic and what we can do to help some of these people, because it’s very, very, sad.
“But you can’t force help on someone unless they’re a threat to themselves or to somebody else.”
Install sprinklers they will move pretty fast
That is so messed up! Homeless people are people too, and they have feelings just like everyone else. Imagine if you were in the same boat as them and someone did that to you, you wouldn’t like it. So think before you speak. Brainless idiots these days.
When 3 or 4 people switch off being mayor for the last 20 years there ain’t gonna be any change. It should be noted that this town has been destroyed under Mayor Cole!
