The summer zman officially began on Monday at Bais Medrash Govoha, and with it came the chavrusah tumult — the lively and storied process during which talmidim pair up with new chavrusos and join a Chaburah for the new zman.
The tumult, a hallmark of the start of each zman at BMG, transforms the usually serene campus into a bustling hive of intense conversations, quick introductions, and hundreds of chavrusah-shafts being carefully coordinated. Talmidim, both returning and new, seek out chavrusos who match their style, pace, and depth of learning — a critical process that often determines the tone for the weeks and months ahead.
The tumult generally lasts for two days or until the majority of talmidim are successfully matched with chavrusos, allowing each Chaburah to begin the zman in earnest.
