An apartment complex under construction in Jackson was the victim of a devastating fire in the early hours of Tuesday morning, causing severe damage to the 3-story structure.

The apartment complex, located on North New Prospect and Larson Road, burst into flames at just past midnight, with firefighters battling for hours to get the blaze under control.

In a statement, the Jackson Fire Department said they were called to the scene of a reported fire at the apartment complex at 12:21 am.

“Responding officers reported that a building at the corner of the property was on fire, with visible flames coming from all three floors of the building,” the fire department said. “Jackson Stations 54, 55, 56 and 57, along with Southward and Freewood Acres Fire Deparments from Howell responded and extinguished the fire.”
