As Lakewood Alerts reported, a man has been arrested following a shots fired investigation that led to a multi-agency police pursuit, a crash involving another vehicle, and a foot chase Wednesday evening in Lakewood.
According to the Lakewood Police Department, officers responded at approximately 5:00 p.m. on July 22 to reports of shots fired in the area of the High Point Apartment Complex. Officers from the Toms River Police Department soon located the suspect vehicle leaving the area and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled, leading officers from both departments on a brief pursuit.
The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed into another vehicle. The driver of the uninvolved vehicle was injured in the collision and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Police said the suspect then fled on foot but was quickly taken into custody near Chestnut Street and Vine Avenue by responding officers.
Following the investigation, authorities charged Timothy Moore-Jackson, 29, of Howell, with eluding, unlawful possession of a handgun, certain persons not to possess a firearm, aggravated assault, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute. He was lodged in the Ocean County Jail pending court proceedings.
“This incident demonstrates the effectiveness of strong partnerships between law enforcement agencies,” said Lakewood Police Chief Gregory Meyer. “The coordinated efforts of every officer and investigator involved led to the quick apprehension of the suspect while helping to protect the public from further harm. I want to thank all of our partner agencies for their efforts throughout this investigation.”
The investigation was conducted by the Lakewood Police Department with assistance from the Toms River Police Department, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit.
