A New Jersey man has admitted to secretly assisting ISIS, providing the terrorist organization with materials and instructions on how to manufacture deadly explosives. Kyse S. Abushanab, 27, pleaded guilty in Newark federal court to concealing efforts to supply material support to ISIS, a designated foreign terrorist organization, U.S. Attorney John Giordano announced.
Federal investigators revealed that between March 2021 and January 2022, Abushanab gathered and distributed information on the construction of weapons of mass destruction, including detailed instructions on how to create suicide vests, detonators, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). His efforts were carefully concealed using encrypted messaging applications, untraceable email accounts, and secure cloud storage, making it harder for law enforcement to detect his activities.
According to court documents, Abushanab meticulously compiled a digital archive of terror, storing and sharing detailed instructional materials on how to construct and deploy deadly weapons. His aim was to provide ISIS members and sympathizers with a centralized repository of knowledge to further the group’s mission. Despite his careful efforts to avoid detection, law enforcement officials successfully uncovered and dismantled his network.
Now facing up to 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine, Abushanab is set to be sentenced on September 24, 2025.
His case was investigated by the FBI-Newark in coordination with the Morris County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sammi Malek with assistance from the Justice Department’s Counterterrorism Section.
