Two Teenagers Killed in Horrific Route 9 Accident

Two teenagers were tragically killed in a horrific accident on Route 9 in Freehold on Tuesday night.

Police say the crash occurred on Route 9’s southbound lanes near Schanck Road at around 10:40 pm when the driver lost control as he was changing lanes, causing the vehicle to spin out. The vehicle ran off the road to the right side, striking a curb and several concrete bollards. The vehicle then rolled over and came to a final stop in front of 3468 Rt. 9.

Besides for the two deceased victims, the driver and two other passengers were treated for minor injuries.

Route 9 was closed in the southbound direction for approximately five hours as police conducted an investigation into the incident.

Freehold Police have asked anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them at 732-462-7908.

The identities of the victims have not been disclosed, but a Freehold Regional High School District official confirmed that one of the people who had passed away was a student in its school system.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of one of our students. Our thought and sympathies are with their family and friends during this difficult time,” a school district spokeswoman told NJ 101.5.
