New Jersey’s Treasury Department this week launched its annual round of ANCHOR property tax relief mailings, sending confirmation letters to about 1 million residents ahead of the fall application deadline.
The letters outline eligibility and benefit details for this year’s program, which remains one of the Murphy administration’s flagship affordability initiatives. Most returning recipients will see their applications filed automatically. But residents who need to update addresses or banking information—or who prefer to receive a paper check—must reapply through the program website by Sept. 15.
Last year, the program delivered $2.1 billion in direct relief to 1.8 million homeowners and renters. Benefits this year will again range from $450 to $1,750 depending on income and filing status. Payments will be issued on a rolling basis starting Sept. 15, with most residents expected to receive funds within 90 days of applying.
Treasury officials also flagged two key changes: applicants will now verify their identities through ID.me instead of using mailed ID/PIN numbers, and seniors over 65 as well as Social Security disability recipients must manually file the Property Tax Relief Application (Form PAS-1), even if they only seek ANCHOR benefits.
The deadline to apply is Oct. 31.
