Toms River Resident Pleads Guilty To Participating In Jan. 6 Riot

Robert Coppotelli, a 28-year-old local real estate agent and small business owner, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to participating in the January 6, 2021, storming of the U.S. Capitol.

According to federal court records, Coppotelli admitted to disorderly and disruptive conduct in the Capitol complex and parading, demonstrating, or picketing at the Capitol. As part of a plea agreement, two additional misdemeanors were dropped.

Coppotelli faces up to one year in prison, $10,000 in fines, and $500 in damage costs to the Capitol when sentenced later this year.

He was identified through video recordings taken during the attack, which showed him wearing a distinctive jacket with his company’s logo and area code.

Surveillance footage revealed Coppotelli scaling the Capitol’s northwest staircase, entering the building through the Senate Wing door, and exiting 12 minutes later through a broken window.
