Toms River Man Killed When His ATV Slams Into Trees In Jackson

A 28-year-old Toms River man was killed Saturday evening in a single-vehicle ATV crash in a remote wooded area of Jackson Township, authorities announced.

According to the Jackson Township Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 6:18 p.m. on April 19 to a rugged trail network known as the Clayton Pits, located behind the Pine Barrens Golf Course off South Hope Chapel Road, for reports of a serious ATV accident.

Preliminary findings indicate that the victim, identified as Brandon Orozco-Avila, was riding an ATV on the dirt trails when he lost control of the vehicle. Investigators say the ATV veered off the path and crashed into a densely wooded area, striking multiple trees.
Orozco-Avila suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Criminalistics Investigation Unit and the Ocean County Medical Examiner responded to assist in the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the crash to contact Jackson Police Officer Zachary Rodina at 732-928-1111.
