A woman was injured Monday morning in a house fire on Tuyahov Boulevard in Toms River, authorities said.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the residence at approximately 10:50 a.m. on April 13. Upon arrival, police and fire personnel learned that a neighbor had already entered the home and rescued the female resident.
Both the woman and the neighbor sustained injuries in the incident. The woman was transported to the Thomas Jefferson University Burn Center in Philadelphia, where she was listed in stable condition. The neighbor was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, treated, and later released.
During firefighting operations, one firefighter suffered minor injuries and was also transported to Community Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
An investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Arson Squad, along with the Toms River Township Police Department Detective Bureau and the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention, determined that the fire originated in a bedroom on the south side of the home. Authorities said the fire was accidental, though they noted that a malfunction involving lithium-ion batteries could not be ruled out as a possible cause.
Officials credited the coordinated efforts of multiple agencies in responding to and investigating the incident.
