Toms River Cop Hit By Car While Directing Traffic At Route 9 Accident

A Toms River Police officer was struck and injured by a vehicle on Friday evening as he directed traffic at the scene of an accident.

Police say the officer, who was not identified, was directing traffic at Route 9 and Stevens Road when he was hit by a vehicle being driven by a family member of an individual who was involved in the first accident.

The family member had been responding to the scene to assist their relative when they unintentionally struck the police officer.

The officer was transported to Brick Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
