Today marks four years since the devastating collapse of the Champlain Towers South in Surfside, Florida, which claimed the lives of 98 people — including a young Lakewood couple, Benny and Malky Weisz A”H.
Benny and Malky had arrived in Surfside just hours before the collapse, having flown in to spend Shabbos with Malky’s father, R’ Chaim Rosenberg z”l, in his newly rented apartment. All three were tragically killed in the collapse. Benny, just 32, and Malky, 27, had been married for five years and had no children of their own.
Benny, a native of Vienna, Austria, was the son of Dyuri and Tina Weisz. Benny was known for his brilliance, refinement, and expansive heart. A close friend described him as “a person who could quote Goethe and Schiller and then walk you through the complex layers of a sugya with the same clarity.” After learning in Yeshivas Chevron in Yerushalayim, Benny pursued a degree in computer science at King’s College in London before moving to Lakewood, where he combined work in finance with ongoing learning in kollel.
Malky, the daughter of R’ Chaim Rosenberg z”l, worked as an auditor for Roth & Co. Her colleagues recalled her elegance, warmth, and the joy she brought into every room. “She carried herself with grace and brought light to the workplace,” said a coworker. Together, Benny and Malky were building a home of Torah and chessed.
In the wake of their untimely petirah, their names were enshrined in a cause they themselves had hoped one day to turn to: building a Jewish family. In 2022, Bonei Olam inaugurated the Benny & Malky Weisz Building, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to supporting couples struggling with infertility. Located in Lakewood, the center includes a full-service medical clinic, on-site laboratory, private counseling rooms, and education resources for rabbanim and community members. It stands as a living tribute to a couple whose own lives were cut short before they had the opportunity to raise a family of their own — now helping others bring life into the world in their memory.
