Three people were injured, including one seriously, after a pickup truck and an SUV collided on Route 70 Saturday afternoon, according to Manchester police.
The crash occurred at about 1:24 p.m. at the intersection of Route 70 and Manchester Boulevard, Capt. Albert Vega said Tuesday.
Police said Jonathan Gill, 64, of Manchester, was driving a black 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 east on Route 70 when a westbound black 2021 Buick Encore, driven by Mary Morone, 79, of Manchester, turned left onto Manchester Boulevard and into the Silverado’s path. The vehicles collided, sending the pickup truck off the roadway, where it struck a traffic signal and caused significant damage, Vega said.
Gill was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he was listed in stable condition. Mary Morone and her passenger, Joseph Morone, 74, also of Manchester, were transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River with injuries described as non-life-threatening, police said.
Emergency medical technicians from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Priced Rite Towing, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates that failure to yield the right of way by the driver of the Buick appears to be the primary contributing factor in the crash, Vega said.
Patrolman Brendan Brush is leading the ongoing investigation.
