This Year’s Adirei Hatorah Maamad Will NOT Be Held at The Wells Fargo Center

For four consecutive years, tens of thousands of bnei Torah have packed their bags, boarded buses, and made the trek down to South Philadelphia for what has become the defining maamad of the American yeshiva world. What began four years ago as an extraordinary show of support for the yungeleit of Bais Medrash Govoah in Lakewood grew into something far larger than anyone anticipated — a gathering so massive it could only be held in one of the largest arenas on the East Coast.

That arena has been the Wells Fargo Center. But this year, the Adirei Hatorah maamad will not be held at the Wells Fargo Center. Here’s why.

The arena was completed in 1996 to replace the Spectrum as the home arena of the 76ers and Flyers basketball and hockey teams, on the former site of John F. Kennedy Stadium, at a cost of $210 million.

But since the day it opened, it has never managed to keep a name for long. Upon opening in 1996, the arena went by the CoreStates Center name during its first two years. It was then named First Union Center for five years before becoming the Wachovia Center. The arena had been known as the Wells Fargo Center since 2010, before the naming rights expired in 2025.

So, what’s the problem?  It’s simple: Wells Fargo Center no longer exists. The arena is now officially the Xfinity Mobile Arena.

The venue itself — the same building, the same seats, the same South Broad Street address — has not moved an inch. And, while organizers have not officially named the venue, all indications are that the location for the upcoming maamad on Sunday, May 31, is expected to remain the same physical arena. But Wells Fargo Center? That name is gone, and it’s not coming back. The Xfinity Mobile Arena name will remain in effect through the 2030-31 sports seasons.

So when ticket sales open for the fifth Adirei Hatorah maamad you won’t be buying a ticket to Wells Fargo. You’ll be heading to Xfinity Mobile Arena.

  1. Not click bait
    Very important announcement

You see in our town, many do not have access to web sites or social media and when tickets go on sale and people hear a new name for the location it could cause confusion or a delay in purchasing tickets since some people will want to know where this new arena is. BH someone was smart enough to put this out and in a way that people understand so that when the time comes to buy tickets hopefully everyone will know that it’s the same location, same venue, same as all the other ones just a new name for the building.

Kudos for being mezakeh the rabbim

  2. Really just a click bait as if this Arena has the most seats on the east coast as stated “it can only be held in the biggest arenas in the east coast”
And it’s a fundraiser event not an appreciation event!

  3. It’s a maamad of appreciation to raise money for the kollel checks.
The headline achieved its purpose, it caught the viewers’ eyes.
