A 19-year-old Toms River man has been arrested following a serious single-vehicle crash late Tuesday night that left both occupants hospitalized, the Lakewood Police Department announced.
The collision occurred at approximately 11 p.m. Officers were dispatched to the area of New Hampshire Avenue and Woodlake Manor Drive after receiving reports of a motor vehicle accident. When officers arrived, they found a car that had left the roadway and struck a tree, trapping both the driver and passenger inside.
Police said both occupants were alert but unable to exit the vehicle due to the severity of the impact. Lakewood EMS crews extricated the individuals and transported them to Jersey Shore Medical Center for medical care.
The driver was identified as Kenneth Lopez-Rivera, 19, of Toms River.
Following an investigation by Lakewood Police, Lopez-Rivera was arrested and charged with assault by auto causing serious bodily injury to his passenger.
