An 18-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his friend as the two played around with a gun they thought was unloaded.
Police were called to a home in Maple Shade, a town about an hour’s drive from Lakewood, for reports of a person having been shot, but on arrival found that the 19-year-old male victim, Nasiah Carson, had already been transported to the hospital.
Doctors at Cooper University Medical Center fought to save his life, but he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
A police investigation found that Carson and Jah-son Jones were horsing around with a firearm they believed to be unloaded. As they messed around, Jones pointed the gun at Carson and pulled the trigger, sending a bullet tearing into the 19-year-old.
Despite the shooting being accidental, police arrested charged Jones with reckless manslaughter and several gun-related charges.
