Police have initiated an investigation following the disturbing discovery of seven swastikas, spray-painted throughout Dunney Park located on Cherry Street in Clifton.
The Clifton Police Department, in collaboration with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, responded to a report of criminal mischief that prompted a swift and thorough examination of the scene.
Officers were dispatched to the park on Wednesday morning in response to a report received shortly before 8:40 a.m. A joint statement released by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Clifton Police Department revealed that the swastikas were found defacing various park structures, including benches, trees, a portable bathroom, and the park’s blacktop.
Authorities have not provided any further details related to the act of vandalism at this time, but have asked the public for help in identifying the suspect or suspects.
“This despicable antisemitic vandalism is a stain on our entire community,” said Rep. Bill Pascrell. “Anti-Jewish hate is rising across America and every single one of us must unite in condemnation. Only together can we crush this scourge. I am sick about this.
