Suspect Arrested After Man Is Found Shot To Death In His Car In Howell

A Howell Township man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this month, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office announced Saturday.

Juan Jesus Mejia Yanza, 33, is facing charges of first-degree murder and two second-degree weapons offenses in the killing of 36-year-old Rolando Acte Mejia, also of Howell, according to Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago.

Police were called to White Street at approximately 6:45 a.m. on June 5 after receiving a 911 report of a possibly deceased man inside a parked vehicle. Officers arrived to find Mejia dead from two gunshot wounds.

Following an investigation, authorities determined the incident was isolated and identified Yanza as the primary suspect. He was taken into custody without incident at his residence on Friday and is currently being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending a court appearance.

The investigation remains active. Officials are urging anyone with information to contact Detective Kayla Santiago of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office at 800-533-7443 or Howell Police Detective Vincent Bonner at 732-938-4111.
