Stay Informed: Lakewood Police Department’s Emergency Alert System

Lakewood is a place where things are constantly happening. It’s particularly important to know of any developments in town that can affect your daily life on our streets and roads.

The Lakewood Police Department (LPD) operates an important round-the-clock alert system that notifies recipients of crucial happenings, such as road closures and detours; utility outages; severe weather events; and, of course, key info in the event of an emergency. Other than standard data or messaging charges, there is no cost to subscribe.

It is important to note that many residents who were subscribed for these alerts in previous years are no longer signed up, since the LPD switched the alert system to a different carrier in 2022, in order to use a system that is more customizable and in sync with various other agencies in the County.

Whether this is your first time subscribing, or you are re-subscribing, it is as easy as it gets to get onboard:

If you prefer to receive alerts via text message, all you need to do is text “LPDNJ” to 67283 and, ergo, you’re signed up!

If you do not have text messaging, or simply prefer another method, you can receive alerts via email or a phone call (the alert text is converted to voice). To do so, you can visit lakewoodpolicenj.com/notify/ and set up an account. Alternatively, you can visit Lakewood Town Hall at 231 3rd Street and fill out a short paper application by the receptionist; or find the application on a Lakewood Shuttle bus and hand it to the driver. You can also sign up for an account, online or on paper, if you prefer to receive alerts via text message.

Regardless of the alert method you choose to receive, an added benefit of signing up for an account –versus merely subscribing by text – is that you can customize what type of alerts you want to receive, and what you don’t.

Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein, who serves as Emergency Services Liaison, highly recommends that everyone who lives, works or commutes through Lakewood should subscribe to these alerts. “The information shared in these alerts directly affect people’s daily routines, and you want to know about it sooner rather than later,” he explains. “I would like to thank the Police Department for making these alerts as practical and user-friendly as can be for everyone in Lakewood.”
