“Smile, You’ve Been Caught”: Kosher2Go in Lakewood Publicly Shames Alleged Shoplifters

A Lakewood convenience store is taking an unconventional — and highly visible — approach to curbing retail theft.

Kosher2Go, located on County Line Road, has begun posting printed screenshots of surveillance footage on its front entrance showing individuals allegedly caught shoplifting inside the store. The display, taped directly to the glass doors, offers a blunt warning to customers that theft will no longer be handled quietly.

The tactic reflects a growing frustration among small retailers facing rising theft, particularly at convenience stores where items are easily concealed and staffing is limited.

The store has not publicly identified any individuals by name, nor disclosed whether police reports were filed in connection with the incidents shown.

  1. I’m not saying stealing is OK, but did they first put up a sign warning of this and giving the perpetrators some time to pay up before publicly shaming them? Would that not have been much better?!
Also, they’re selling poison – look at the sign to the right of the door – it says nicotine, which is poison – and they sell it to teens too – hopefully not underage. So, the store is also not exactly the most righteous of people.
Still, it is true that you can’t steal – even from the less-than-righteous. As king Solomon says in Mishlei (Proverbs), where he describes at length that one who thinks he’ll just steal some small money – and even if he claims that the one he is stealing from earned it dishonestly, and so it’s not really his, the thief ends up doing the worst (when the owner tries to stop him). Bad choice of pastimes.
Get a job – even a small one, so you’ll have some pocket money. Or even ask a passerby for a few $ (as teens sometimes ask me [in other places], and I’m happy to give something, though I try to tell them not for junk food!), but don’t steal.
And about nicotine, even though it’s legal, but is it really right?! Come on, people are getting more into health! We need to stop this stuff!
The CDC says outright that vaping is unhealthy for EVRYONE and IS NOT a replacement for tobacco cigs, and that there is virtually no regulation as to what goes into them – many poisons.

  2. In Brooklyn, people steal then SELL THE STUFF ON THE SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF THE STORE THEY STOLE FROM! That is what is going on in some places in this world. Thet thieves can’t be prosecuted, as they stole less than $700 of stuff, and once they’re out, they can undercut the stores!
BTW, these teens should remember that one day they’ll be 18, and you don’t learn life skills overnight. There is a reason these years are called education. Learn how to be an adult – and be proud of it!!!
And remember, people DO respect you for who you are. Revel in that and have conversations with people, get to know people, you’ll be amazed at the relationships.
