Six Flags Great Adventure Announces $1 Billion Investment And Two New Coasters As Kingda Ka Closes

Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson has revealed plans for a $1 billion investment that includes the addition of two thrilling new roller coasters by 2026, while also confirming the removal of several popular attractions, including the iconic Kingda Ka.

Park officials announced Thursday that Kingda Ka, the 456-foot-tall roller coaster that has thrilled riders at speeds up to 128 mph since 2005, will be dismantled. Additionally, the Green Lantern, Twister, Parachutes ride, and the Sky Way chair lift that transports guests across the park, will also be removed.

Six Flags fans can look forward to the opening of The Flash: Vertical Velocity, initially slated for the park’s 50th anniversary in 2024 but delayed until 2025. The Flash will be the first triple-launch super boomerang coaster in North America, taking riders forward and backward at speeds approaching 60 mph through thrilling twists and rolls.

Brian Bacica, President of Six Flags Great Adventure, also hinted at another groundbreaking attraction arriving in 2026. He described it as a “multi-record-breaking launch coaster” set to be a “must-ride” experience in the spot formerly occupied by Kingda Ka and Green Lantern. “This exciting new ride underscores Six Flags’ commitment to continually elevating the park experience and making every visit an unforgettable adventure for all,” Bacica said.

The rumors about these removals intensified after NJ.com reported on Six Flags filing construction permits to demolish Green Lantern, Twister, and Parachutes. Fans of Kingda Ka flocked to the park over the weekend to get one last ride on the coaster, which debuted as the tallest and fastest in the world nearly 20 years ago.

“Kingda Ka brought us almost two decades of excitement and over 12 million rides, but advancements in roller coaster technology have surpassed its capabilities,” said park spokesperson Staci Wheeler. “This has impacted operations, leading to an inconsistent guest experience. Now it’s time for a new chapter with an all-new, multi-record-breaking launch coaster debuting in 2026.”
