Seven Juveniles Injured in Ocean County Firepit Flash Fire

Seven juveniles were injured in a flash fire involving an outdoor firepit late Tuesday night at a Berkeley Township residence, authorities said.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said that at approximately 10:00 p.m. on December 31, 2025, police, fire, and emergency personnel responded to a home on North Trenton Avenue following reports of a fire with multiple burn victims.

Upon arrival, emergency responders determined that seven juveniles had suffered burns as the result of a flash fire that occurred in an outdoor firepit, Billhimer said.

Two of the juveniles were transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where they were treated and released. A third juvenile was taken by her parents to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and was also treated and released. The remaining juveniles were released to their parents at the scene and declined medical treatment, authorities said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit–Arson Squad, the Berkeley Township Police Department Detective Bureau, the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.

No additional details regarding the cause of the firepit flash fire were immediately released.
