Senator Owen Henry (R-12) hosted his second roundtable with Jackson school district officials to discuss how educators are adjusting to the latest round of Governor Murphy’s education funding cuts.
“As more schools around New Jersey lay off teachers and cut vital programs, it’s clear that we need to do more to protect the quality of our education system,” said Sen. Henry. “The Legislature needs to bring school districts to the table to fully understand their financial needs and forge a more equitable path forward. Today’s meeting with Jackson leaders was insightful and productive and I look forward to taking their concerns to Trenton so we can do right by our children and ensure that they have a thorough and efficient education.”
In response to Governor Murphy’s drastic budget cuts, Jackson Township School District officials implemented a subscription-based plan for parents to pay for their student’s after-school bus transportation when engaged in an extracurricular activity or sport.
This was Senator Henry’s third education-focused roundtable and his second with Jackson officials. In April, he met with education leaders to hear concerns about Governor Murphy’s proposed funding cuts.
“We have to keep fighting for our students and our educators. As we move into a post-S2 era, Republicans and Democrats must work together and listen to the needs of school district administrators,” Sen. Henry concluded. “Our students’ futures depend on a commitment to sustainable and fair funding solutions.”
