The special Childrens Center was honored to welcome Senator Singer on his visit to see their new agricultural vocational program on their very own 30 acre farm in Howell.
Senator singer loves the special children and they love him back. They were super excited to welcome him and give him a tour. They started by collecting their own eggs that were just freshly laid from the chicken coup. They brought those inside to chef David and were treated to a magnificent farm to table breakfast of omlets, fricotta, corn bread, salad and more! They then continues on a tour of the amazing facilities.
In the barn they saw where the children come after achool and take responsibility for the running and upkeep of the animals. The stalls get cleaned and many many of them can already proudly do that perfectly independently- the horses are brushed, their hooves are cleaned and they get to ride them too! The goats and sheep and rabbits all get super special attention too. It was amazing to see the many cages, benches, enclosures and more that the boys built by themselves. They drilled, sanded, stained and sealed. Everyone was in awe of how much the special children and adults accomplish daily on the farm!
The overriding goal of this true working farm is teaching our children valuable skills when they are young, and hone them under professional direction, to enable them to grow to be contributing adults after they graduate and continue to work on the farm in our new adult farm program.
