Dear Lakewood Shomrim/LCSW,
We are writing to express our sincere gratitude for the incredible help you provided us on Shabbos. Our experience left us with such appreciation and respect for all those involved in this unbelievable organization.
Our air conditioner broke on Friday afternoon, but we only realized right at the start of Shabbos. We were feeling uncomfortable in the heat, but hoped for the best. We live in a neighborhood without an eiruv and we had two babies in the house who don’t walk, so there was no option to leave the house. As the hours passed, the temperature in the house rose to 85 degrees. The heat became stifling; we had trouble sleeping, and some of us started showing signs of dehydration.
At 8 a.m., a very helpful neighbor came over to help us. He looked around and saw that this job needed a real professional. He made many phone calls to 24-hour HVAC repair services, but no one was available to come down on Shabbos morning. Then we remembered about LCSW and had a call made to their emergency line. They picked up immediately and said they’d be right over.
Fifteen minutes later, two compassionate and capable members arrived. They saw that the issue needed an expert, so they called the HVAC expert on LCSW staff. He arrived immediately with a determination to fix the air conditioner. He skillfully worked in the heat for 2.5 hours diagnosing and rectifying the problem. He stayed until he was sure that the system was working properly.
The LCSW volunteers-Unit 102, Unit 76, and especially Unit 51-showed us tremendous kindness. They approached our problem with such commitment and drive, it was a true inspiration for us. All of this work is done on a volunteer basis, which is truly remarkable and a lesson for us all. We were so touched by their respect for our Shabbos observance and the lengths that they went to make us as comfortable and safe as possible.
Thank you again for everything. We are truly grateful for your help.
Sincerely,
