Prosecutor Who Led Witch Hunt Against Rabbi Osher Eisemann Returns To Lead NJ’s Office Of Public Integrity And Accountability

New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin has announced the appointment of Jeffrey J. Manis as co-director of the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA) Corruption Bureau. The move should spark outrage, particularly given Manis’s role in the controversial prosecution of Rabbi Osher Eisemann, whose case was ultimately dismissed by Judge Joseph Paone earlier this year after nearly a decade of legal turmoil.

Manis, who previously served as OPIA’s Corruption Bureau chief and has a history as a federal prosecutor, is now positioned with even more power – after escaping any accountability following Rabbi Eisemann’s persecution. Critics argue that his leadership raises serious questions about the integrity of the Bureau, especially in light of his involvement in a case that many viewed as a “witch hunt.”

Attorney General Platkin touted Manis’s qualifications, emphasizing his experience in handling high-profile cases. However, many are left wondering how someone associated with such a contentious prosecution can be trusted to uphold justice in New Jersey’s corruption investigations. Rabbi Eisemann’s ordeal, an unmitigated embarrassment and a miscarriage of justice, exemplifies the dangers of prosecutorial overreach.

Eric L. Gibson, who joins Manis as co-director, is also experienced in public corruption prosecutions. While Gibson’s credentials are notable, the appointment of Manis has overshadowed this announcement, casting doubt on the Bureau’s commitment to fair and unbiased enforcement.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue leading OPIA’s all-important work to battle public corruption,” Manis stated in the announcement. Yet, his past actions raise legitimate concerns about his ability to serve impartially. His track record includes overseeing investigations that some believe were driven by personal or political agendas rather than a commitment to justice.

  1. Selective investigation is how it seems in NJ ,Edison mayor took 4 police officers to the democratic national convention funded by taxpayers. It was a multi-day trip after he was exposed he said he would pay it back ,what he paid is no were near the cost.the AG was asked by residents and myself to help with the accounting.all edison has heard are crickets. Yet they chose to go after a man of God. Religious people are persecuted, but we turn a blind eye to politicians. I am not sure this is true public integrity

  2. There’s no integrity in this state the prosecutor lies and get away with it I lost my case due to politics and lying prosecutors sad thing there’s no one out there to help !

  3. Of course this is OK — after all, we are living in Bizarro world — what’s wrong with that?? — nothing if you are a Bizarron, which most members of our NJ government are at the moment!
