Police Officer Shot While Responding to Emergency in New Jersey

A police officer and a civilian were shot on Saturday afternoon in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, during a domestic violence incident.

Both the injured woman and the officer are currently receiving medical attention at St. Luke’s Hospital. According to Warren County Prosecutor James Pfeiffer, the officer’s leg was hit by a bullet that penetrated his car door.

Pfeiffer added that investigators suspect the individual who shot the woman in the torso died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Prior to being taken to the hospital, both victims were conscious and responsive.

The shooter is dead, but not from a police-fired bullet, according to officials.
