Police Officer Shot After Car Chase On Garden State Parkway

A police officer was shot and injured in his arm late Thursday night near Exit 131 on the Garden State Parkway following a pursuit.

The incident unfolded around 11:30 pm when an officer from the Cranford Police Department attempted to stop a van. The driver fled, leading to a chase, with the van driver ultimately crashing near Exit 31 and then opening fire on the police officer.

An incident on the Garden State Parkway late Thursday evening resulted in a police officer sustaining a gunshot wound to the arm, as confirmed by a recent ABC7 report. The episode unfolded around 11:30 p.m. near Exit 131 when the officer, whose identity hasn’t been disclosed, attempted to stop a van.

The injured cop was transported to University Hospital in Newark with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The suspect was also reported to be injured in the incident, though his condition was not immediately known. News12 reported that a body bag was seen at the scene, suggesting that the suspect may have been killed in the ensuing shootout with police officers.
