Lakewood police have arrested a local woman accused of using a resident’s financial information to make more than $1,000 in unauthorized purchases, following a months-long fraud investigation.
According to the Lakewood Police Department, the case began on Feb. 10, when a resident reported discovering unauthorized charges on her bank account totaling more than $1,000.
Detectives launched an investigation and obtained records from multiple online service providers. Authorities said the evidence led them to identify the suspect as Kelly Bragg, 53, of Lakewood.
Investigators determined that Bragg had previously worked for a local transportation service used by the victim. Based on the findings of the investigation, police filed criminal charges against Bragg in May, including multiple counts of fraudulent use of a credit card and theft by deception.
The case remained active until Monday, when officers received information regarding Bragg’s whereabouts. Police coordinated efforts to locate her and ultimately took her into custody without incident.
Bragg was processed at Lakewood Police Headquarters and transported to the Ocean County Correctional Facility, where she remained pending court proceedings.
