One person was killed and another was critically injured after two helicopters crashed late Sunday morning in Hammonton, southern New Jersey, authorities said.
According to the Hammonton Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 11:25 a.m. following reports of an aviation crash involving two helicopters near the 100 block of Basin Road, close to the White Horse Pike and Route 206.
Police said both helicopters crash-landed in the area, and one of the aircraft was engulfed in flames upon impact. Firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and were able to extinguish the fire.
Officials confirmed that one individual was pronounced dead at the scene. A second person was found in the wreckage and transported by EMS to a hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries.
Authorities have not released the identities of the victims.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and officials have not said why the helicopters were operating in the area at the time of the incident.
