One Dead, One Critical After Shooting Inside Nursing Home in Southern NJ

One person was killed and another was hospitalized in critical condition Monday after a shooting inside a 120-bed nursing home in Atlantic County, authorities said.

The shooting occurred shortly after 6 a.m. at Excelcare Rehabilitation Facility in Egg Harbor Township, according to officials. Police responded to the scene and found one victim dead and a second who was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has not yet identified the victims or confirmed whether they were residents or employees of the facility. A motive has not been established and the investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities said they do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the broader community, describing the shooting as an isolated incident involving individuals known to one another.
