Off-Duty Toms River Police Officer Pleads Guilty to Burglary, Assault

An off-duty Toms River police officer has pleaded guilty to multiple charges stemming from a domestic disturbance in Berkeley Township earlier this year, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

Rebecca Sayegh, 32, entered guilty pleas before Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan to Burglary, Criminal Mischief, and Simple Assault for her role in an incident that occurred on April 25, 2025. Sentencing is scheduled for January 16, 2026.

Prosecutors said they will seek a sentence of 180 days in the Ocean County Jail as a condition of probation, along with restitution and a no-contact order with the victims.

Sayegh, who was an off-duty Toms River Township Police Officer at the time of the incident, was required to forfeit her position effective November 17. She has also forfeited any future public employment in New Jersey.

According to authorities, Berkeley Township police officers responded to a residence on Evernhan Avenue around 11:20 p.m. on April 25 for a report of a domestic disturbance. Officers determined that Sayegh had smashed the front glass door of the home and entered the residence. She was also found to have damaged the hood of a vehicle belonging to one of the victims.

Sayegh was taken into custody at the scene after resisting officers’ attempts to place her under arrest. She was later released from the Ocean County Jail under the state’s bail reform guidelines.
