A 22-year-old Lacey Township woman has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian critically injured, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced Sunday.
Cagla Nemutlu was charged with Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Crash Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury following an incident that occurred late Saturday night in the Winteringham Village area of Toms River.
At approximately 11:25 p.m. on July 19, officers from the Toms River Township Police Department responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, they found a 60-year-old male with serious injuries. He was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
According to investigators from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit – Vehicular Homicide Squad, the Toms River Police Detective Bureau, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Nemutlu was attempting to exit a parking space when she struck two male pedestrians and fled the scene at a high rate of speed without stopping to provide aid.
The second victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Nemutlu was located a short time later within the Winteringham Village complex and taken into custody without incident. She was transported to the Ocean County Jail, where she remains pending a detention hearing.
