Ocean County is inviting residents to celebrate Independence Day with two patriotic events that will honor the nation’s history while helping kick off the countdown to America’s 250th birthday.
The festivities will begin on Wednesday, July 2, with the annual Stars and Stripes Spectacular Patriotic Concert and Drone Show at the Ocean County Parks Administration Building Bay-Front Field in Toms River.
The free event starts at 7:30 p.m. and will feature a 25-piece orchestra led by Wilbur Whitman performing a selection of patriotic classics. Following the concert, a drone show will light up the evening sky in a high-tech tribute to the nation.
In addition to the entertainment, attendees can enjoy food trucks, family-friendly games, informational exhibits and a Revolutionary War-themed trailer highlighting plans for the United States’ upcoming Semiquincentennial celebration in 2026.
“Independence Day is a time to reflect on our nation’s history, celebrate the freedoms we enjoy and recognize the sacrifices that made those freedoms possible,” said Ocean County Commissioner Robert S. Arace, liaison to the Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation. “The Stars and Stripes Spectacular provides a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to come together in a spirit of patriotism and community while enjoying an evening of entertainment.”
Parking for the July 2 event will be available at Cattus Island County Park, with complimentary shuttle service transporting visitors to and from the concert site.
The celebration will continue on Friday, July 4, with Ocean County’s participation in the nationwide “Ringing from Sea to Shining Sea” initiative, part of the National Bell Festival commemorating America’s 250th anniversary.
Beginning at 1 p.m. on the Ocean County Courthouse Lawn, the event will feature a public reading of the Declaration of Independence followed by a synchronized bell-ringing ceremony taking place across the country.
County officials said the events are intended not only to celebrate Independence Day, but also to recognize the generations of Americans whose contributions helped shape the nation.
As the United States approaches its historic 250th birthday, the Ocean County Board of Commissioners is encouraging residents and visitors alike to take part in the celebrations and reflect on the enduring spirit of independence that defines the country.
