Ocean County, in partnership with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA), is inviting residents to help shape the future of the region’s transportation through a new long-range plan, Connecting Communities. The plan will guide transportation investments, programs, and policies for the next 25 years, ensuring the region’s infrastructure meets future demands.
NJTPA oversees transportation planning for 13 counties in northern and central New Jersey, home to 7 million residents—a number expected to grow to 7.8 million by 2050. Annually, the agency allocates more than $3 billion to transportation projects, making public input vital to its planning process.
“Connecting Communities will set the vision for our transportation network and prioritize projects that are critical to our region,” said John P. Kelly, Director of the Ocean County Board of Commissioners and NJTPA Chair. “We encourage residents to share their thoughts to ensure this plan reflects their needs.”
Ocean County residents are invited to participate in an online survey, available in six languages, and attend virtual events such as the Let’s Talk Transportation webinar on January 28, which will focus on creating safe biking and walking networks.
Key Ocean County projects under NJTPA’s guidance include studies on mitigating congestion in Lakewood and replacing the Chadwick Beach Island Bridge in Toms River.
To contribute your ideas, take the survey and sign up for events at njtpa.org/connecting. Public feedback will be incorporated into the plan, expected to be adopted in September.
