Ocean County Prepares as Major Storm Heads Our Way

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Management is continuing to monitor the storm as it approaches Ocean County. The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office has staged high water vehicles and other resources in Toms River and at the Ocean County Southern Resource Center in Stafford Township for a timely response should they be necessary. In addition, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office has deployed numerous cameras throughout the County to monitor conditions from the Ocean County 911 Center.

Additional Sheriff’s Officers and 911 dispatchers have been assigned to work throughout the storm and during the expected cold snap predicted for the Christmas holiday.
The storm is predicted to bring one to three inches of rain, high winds with possible 50 to 60 mile per hour gusts and moderate flooding through Friday night.
High tide for Toms River is at 11:16 Friday morning and 11:05 Friday night with 20 mile an hour southwest winds.

Ocean County Sheriff Michael G. Mastronardy reminds residents to remember these tips while they continue to monitor weather conditions:

• Avoid driving through flooded areas. In addition, residents should move vehicles to higher ground if they live in low laying area.
• Wear layers of loose fitting clothing and covering your mouth to protect your lungs from the extreme cold
• Bring pets indoors
• Check your car battery
• Place generators 20 feet from doors or windows

In the event of power outages, Jersey Central Power and Light Company customers should call 1-888-544-4877 and Atlantic City Electric Customers should call 1-800-833-7476.
