At 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service has reached 100 percent containment of a 831-acre wildfire in the area of Miller Airpark in Lacey Twp. The fire area included property managed by Ocean County and the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area.
ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE:
Dover Rd is closed from Lacey Rd to Pinewald Keswick Rd to through traffic
Mule Rd is closed from Lacey Rd to Pinewald Keswick Rd to through traffic
Local traffic is permitted to travel Dover Rd and Mule Rd
Dover Rd and Mule Rd is expected to fully reopen later this evening
the course of the fire, 25 structures were threatened. Thanks to the assistance of local volunteer fire companies providing structure protection there was no damage to any of the threatened structures.
Forest Fire Service staff will remain on scene and continue to monitor control lines and address areas of concern until significant precipitation occurs to ensure public safety. Additionally, we ask that motorists keep an eye out for firefighters and fire vehicles that may be working on the roadsides.
SMOKE IMPACTS
The public is advised that the smell of smoke may remain an extended period while firefighters work to mop-up the wildfire. Motorists traveling in the area should remain cautious while driving through areas of smoke. Smoke conditions will likely remain until significant rain falls over the fire area.
This incident continues to be managed through a unified command with Lacey Township Police Department, Berkley Police Department, with additional input from the FAA and the NTSB.
