No Injuries Reported After E-Bike Goes Up In Flames In Toms River

On Friday afternoon, the Pleasant Plains Fire Department responded to a reported vehicle fire on Hickory Street. First arriving units located an electric bike on fire.

The bike appeared to be powered by lead-acid batteries wired in series. There were no reported injuries caused by the fire.

According to statements from the owner of the e-bike, it was purchased secondhand from a friend. A photo of a similar bike is below.

The fire appears to be caused by a failure of energized electrical equipment and is being investigated by Inspector Britton of the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention.
