An internal poll conducted for a super PAC supporting Republican Jack Ciattarelli shows Democrat Mikie Sherrill holding a five-point lead in the New Jersey governor’s race. The survey, conducted in June by Republican pollster Kellyanne Conway for the group Change NJ, places Sherrill at 47% and Ciattarelli at 42%, with 11% of respondents undecided.
The poll’s demographic sampling—based on party registration, gender, and race—closely mirrors voter turnout from the 2021 gubernatorial election, according to a New Jersey Globe analysis.
Survey results reflect widespread voter dissatisfaction with the state’s current direction. More than half of respondents said New Jersey is on the wrong track, and a majority believe the state needs significant changes.
The poll also found strong support for a more collaborative style of governance, with voters favoring a governor who could work with a Republican presidential administration rather than adopt a partisan approach aligned with progressive leaders in other states.
Meanwhile, a recent Rutgers-Eagleton poll shows a much wider gap in the race, with Sherrill leading Ciattarelli by 20 points—51% to 31%—and 13% of voters still undecided. Republican strategists have criticized that poll, alleging it under-sampled GOP voters compared to previous election benchmarks.
